Scan tags that do NOT have barcodes!
What?! It's true! Utilizing a
Zebra DS8208 scanner and subscribing to our Visual Scanning Service
empowers you to scan handwritten tags.
Note:Your results will vary depending on the quality of the tag, the written text (sloppy vs neat) however it saves quite a lot of time and will be a major 'Game Changer' for many shops.
How? Using the convenient video viewfinder, you center the tag and pull the trigger to take a photo which is then uploaded to the Google® Cloud Vision Ai service, which then extracts the text (printed or handwritten) from the image, returns that to us to then turn into Dealer / Price / Description.
And? Tell me more! The extracted text is simply placed onto a new row on the Cash Register, as if you had typed it in! And, if you do maintain an inventory and the info matches an item it does a lookup and cleanup. You can always cleanup the results in real-time.
What tags work best? We do not really have a recommendation on this. The way it works is all text is deciphered and then broken into words and each word is looked at as possibly being a DealerID, an ItemID, a Price or just part of Description.
Anything else? Yes, quite a lot more! Keep reading...
- The user interface allows you to scan tags with information on one side or both sides (if your Dealers write the DealerID and Price on one side and the Description on the other).
- Because this is not 100% accurate, there is always the chance you have to do some cleanup. To assist with that there are configuration options to do "price correction", "text substitution" and "prefix removal" (say DealerID is 007 but they wrote B007, the prefix "B " can be removed so the 007 matches).
- Naturally, this does require a license for GoAntiquing! Point of Sale, and works best with the Gateway and Data Backup services.
- Why best with Gateway and Data Backup? Because if you have these 2 services then at end of day when sales are uploaded the tag images are also uploaded and the Dealer can view their tags! Many of you keep all tags for the Dealers to validate later, this helps give them an early view, and frankly reduces the people who crowd at the register to look at tags.
- And yes, this can be used in conjunction with barcodes - mix-n-match! Or just scan non-barcoded tags.
